Trash Collection

As part of the Clear the Curb waste collection program, residents receive a one-time, free 64-gallon wheeled trash toter/cart for trash and one for recycling collection. If you need to request bins, call 311 or place a request online (search: “trash and”). The County provides one bin of each type per address. They do not replace stolen bins. Bins are the property of the County. For more information, go to the County’s Residential Trash website.

Reporting Missed Collections

Per the County, “residents should be assured that all missed collections will be serviced promptly and that they should leave their items at the curb once an online missed collection is reported through PGC311”.

Curbing Receptacle Summer Odors

Summertime heat can produce unpleasant odors in out trash, recycle, and compost receptacles. Here are some easy tips to consider.

  • If available, place all waste collection bins in a shaded area.

  • Shredded paper can be both recycled & composted; it also helps absorb liquids. AVOID waxed paper products.

  • Composting our grass clippings & yard trims dampen down smells and absorbs humidity.

  • Baking soda will help absorb & neutralize gasses.

  • Wash your waste collection receptables at least once per month.

With temperatures rising and expected to remain high throughout the coming weeks, the Department of the Environment has adjusted its waste collection hours.

Beginning Monday, July 15, through Monday, September 30, residents are asked to place their trash and recycling carts at the curb by 5 a.m. on their regular collection day.

This time adjustment is for workers' safety to avoid waste collection during the hottest times of the day. Residents should note that services may be delayed throughout the day while workers navigate the high temperatures. Learn More.
